Blending at People Possession

People Possession began as a friendship project with Tony — a collaboration rooted in curiosity, creativity, and a shared love for coffee. It wasn’t something overly planned or strategic at first. It came from a place of connection, both with each other and with the producers we’ve come to admire deeply. Over countless cups of coffee and conversations, the idea took shape: what if we blended coffees not just to mix flavours, but to tell a story — one of craft, culture, and experimentation?

We started blending because we wanted to craft something new.

Single origins are incredible and full of unique expression, but blends offer a different kind of freedom — a way to push boundaries and create a new world of flavour.

We weren’t interested in blending for consistency’s sake. We wanted to explore flavour as a creative medium, to challenge ourselves to rethink what a blend could be. For us, it’s about crafting something imaginative, layered, and unexpected — while still being deeply respectful of where the coffee comes from.

The inspiration behind each People Possession blend comes from the producers. Their work — the care they put into growing, harvesting, and processing coffee — is what we’re building on. We don’t want to overshadow that. Instead, we see our role as curators and collaborators. We take their beautiful coffees and ask, "How can we combine these to say something new? What kind of experience can we create from their efforts?" It's about celebrating their craft and giving it a new form.

Creating a People Possession blend is a hands-on, sensory-driven process. We start by tasting a wide range of coffees, noting not just their flavours but how they might interact. We think about balance, texture, finish — but also emotion. It depends on what story we want to tell. From there, it’s trial and error. We test, tweak, and taste until it feels right. Sometimes the result surprises us — and that’s when we know we’ve got something special. Of course, the expansion of innovative processes and co-fermentations has helped a lot.

The response has been incredible. Honestly, it’s been one of our best-received projects. People have connected with the blends in a really personal way — not just in terms of taste, but in understanding the story behind them. For many, it’s opened up a new perspective on what coffee can be. It’s reaffirmed our belief that blending can be an art form, and that there’s room in specialty coffee for playful experimentation rooted in respect for the producers.

People Possession is still evolving, and that’s part of the fun. As long as we’re inspired by each other, by the coffees, and by the people behind them, we’ll keep blending, keep creating, and keep inviting people into this little world we’ve built.
